Hi guys,
I would love to try myself and participate in this challenge. I thought, I'll go for a toad martial arts master, a slightly Kung-Fu Panda-ish character. It's mostly inspired by my old 3d sketch, sulpted for fun a few years ago as well as a vast amount of wuxia/kung fu movies characters i have seen as a kid. For a main reference I'll use quick sketch done by my girlfriend - Martyna Gawłowska.
I did some changes to the proportions for the character to look closer to the drawing reference (a bit more human-like and beefy). . Also starting to slowly block out clothing and accessories. It still look kinda blobby, but time for polishing will come later ;).
I've finished modelling straw hat. Meant to be as simple in overall design as rest of the assets, but I've decided that a bit of irregularity to the straw elements would fit nicely ;).
Ok, so here is him after some further sculpting and with added clothes. I've also modeled leg wraps and some leather belts for wrists and waist (based on traditional studded leather wraps used in hung gar kung fu style)
Ok, so the initial sculpt is done ;). I've added some additional details, like metal studs on the belt, second level of leg wraps or detailed eyeballs, and put all my assets together. Now, time for some retopology/unwrapping, posing and texturing. Still plenty to do, so let's go :D!
Back (I'm thinking about unsheating the sabre and let him hold it in a hand , rather just hanging on the back scabbard, still haven't decide though).
Ok, the posing is done. I've had some hard time deciding what kind of dynamic pose i want for my character, some wushu stance or maybe in combat still frame like. Finally I've decided for something far more static, stoic and calm. I think that this pose suits the "old wise master" theme better. It's the perfect mix of chillfull casual smoking of a pipe and being full ready for upcoming compat, with his sabre unsheathed and rested on a shoulder.
