Manchester United put their three games without a victory behind them as they triumphed at Old Trafford thanks to Marcus Rashford's goal, which proved the only goal of the contest.

Erik ten Hag's side have now returned to the top four, three points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur. However, they must be wary in their next match as Newcastle United look to extend their lead over Manchester United with a win at West Ham United.

First-half

Clinical Rashford made all the difference against Brentford, scoring his 28th goal of the season to give Manchester United a much needed win. Erik ten Hag's side were in danger of going four league games without scoring when Rashford made sure that didn't happen.

United made a strong start to the match as Brentford struggled to gain any ground. Thomas Frank urged his players to push up higher in order to disrupt play, yet both sides appeared stuck inside their own halfs so far.

Brentford attempted a late comeback, but United dominated from start to finish. The hosts remained untroubled throughout and David de Gea was called into action for the first time in this game, saving Kevin Schade from a one-v-one opportunity.

In the second half, United were again forced into action with several substitutions; however, it appeared unlikely they would let them equalize. Their only other attempt came from Ivan Toney's header which missed its target.

Second-half

After a slow start, Clinical Rashford found his form against Brentford. The England forward scored an impressive goal to give United their first win of the Premier League season with a 1-0 triumph at home.

In the 27th minute, an exquisite Antony ball allowed Marcel Sabitzer to head down toward Rashford inside the Brentford box and the forward made no mistake as he scored his 28th goal of the campaign. With this win, Manchester United move back up to fourth in the league and are level on points with Newcastle who beat West Ham 5-1 to remain third.

On Sunday, United made a welcome comeback after their disappointing 2-0 loss at Newcastle. Erik ten Hag was delighted that his players had returned to the standards he expects of them. However, he also advised Marcus Rashford on improving his finishing.

Third-half

In the third-half, Manchester United were able to maintain control of play and create some chances on goal. Rashford took advantage of a breakaway to score an emphatic goal past Danny Ward with ease.

United are now three points behind Tottenham in the race for a top four spot, so Erik ten Hag's team will be hoping to make it four wins on the bounce this weekend when they host Everton. With one game in hand over their rivals, it will be interesting to see how United handle pressure during this crucial encounter.

Thomas Frank will be hoping his team can push higher and disrupt Manchester United's lineup, which seemed too secure in the first half. Doing so is essential if they want to avoid falling further behind in the top four rankings.

Final score

Manchester United have returned to the top four with a 1-0 victory over Brentford, led by Marcus Rashford's goal. Erik ten Hag's men are now only three points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth, while Newcastle United remain third after beating West Ham 5-1.

Man United displayed a dominant performance against Brentford, who had only lost once in their previous 10 matches. They controlled the game throughout and were rewarded with a commanding lead at halftime thanks to Rashford's impressive finish.

Brentford had some good chances in the second half, but couldn't capitalize on them. Additionally, they struggled to contain several counterattacks from Manchester United. With one chance left for them when Ivan Toney charged down a clearance that could've gone in, David de Gea made an incredible save to keep Brentford in it.
