AnimSchool Fantasy Character WIP - Patrick Munroe
Hello! I'm a freelancer and an AnimSchool graduate. I haven't had the chance to work on a personal project for a while so I am looking forward to entering this contest.
The concept I've chosen is Warrior by Johannes Helgeson. She seems like a really fun character!
I put in a few more hours today to work on her face and block out some of her clothing. I like how the face is turning out but it's not close enough to the concept art yet, so I'll definitely keep refining that. I'm also starting to see several areas that need adjustments with regard to size/proportion. For now I'm happy to just get a bunch of stuff blocked in so I can work on it holistically. Trying not to get caught up in the details too soon!
Hello friends! Bringin' you another update. I've blocked in most of the clothing at this point and started refining the overall proportions of the character. Areas of note:
- The face, specifically the cheeks and under the chin. This area was not filled in enough before. Also added the eyebrows! I think it's looking more like the concept.
- Chest/stomach area. I scrapped the first shirt that I blocked in because it just wasn't fitting right. The silhouette was not very appealing so I'm trying to work on that as well.
- Arms & legs were too thin. I've inflated them and modified them a little bit to match the proportions in the concept art better. I think they still need some work but we're getting closer!
Looking at the screenshots now I realize the hair is too big. I'll work on that next and then probably start adding some basic colors to the model.
What do you all think? I'm always looking to improve so comments & criticism are more than welcome!
@patrick-munroe Good work so far!! I like how you balance the porportion of body and head.I also like a lot the block of the armor, it's look great!
I would like to suggest to add same "hair shape" on the middle of back, right now it seems as a crown than a tail of hair.
You could try give less volume on lips, on the concept they are not so exagerate. You could also try to define better their outliner.
Also the nose is little bit smaller and the eyebrowns are more thin on the concept.
She is round, but she has delicate face lineament.
I hope this feedback are helpfull to improve her.
Lots of progress!! The main additions are:
- Gold trim to clothing
- Shirt detail
- Pants detail: trim pattern, seams, and knees creases
- Leg belt buckle
I also gave the gold parts a slightly warmer color. They were too yellow before, so now they have a more orange tint. I think this next list is all that remains to be done:
- Ear details
- Loincloth details
- Scarf wrinkles
- Headband wrinkles, knot, and flowing ribbons
- Arm tattoos and other painted details
- The sword!
- Circular desert pedestal for her to stand on
I'm hoping to finish up this week so I can spend enough time on final details, posing, and rendering. Getting close to the finish line!
Almost done! I finally got around to making some legitimate hair for this lady, which I think turned out pretty cool! I also completed the headband, loincloth, and her gigantic sword. All that's left to do is increase the poly count so I can add the final details and refine the polypaint, then pose & render. I should be able to complete the project just in time!
Here is the final render! Polypainting, lighting, and rendering in ZBrush were definitely challenging for me but overall I'm pretty happy with the result. There are many, many things I would want to improve but the deadline is in 20 minutes... (definitely cutting it close!)
Everyone's submissions are looking great! Best of luck to you all, and keep up the amazing work! 🙂
